BRACES 101: Everything you need to know about Braces

So, you’re getting braces or thinking about it? 🤔

Braces aren’t just about looks, they actually function to straighten your teeth, and correct any misalignment in your bite, thus boosting your confidence. Think of them as your smile architects, gently moving each tooth into its perfect place.

Types of Braces

1. Traditional Metal braces: You've probably seen someone with this type of braces. They are the most conventional and common types of braces. They are made out of stainless steel and gradually realign the teeth.

2. Ceramic braces: This work like metal braces but blend with your teeth colour, making them less noticeable. However, this type of braces are brittle and are prone to breaking and can get stained.

3. Lingual braces: If you want braces that are hidden from view. This is an option worth considering. It's placed behind your teeth contrary to how metal braces are placed in front of the teeth.

4. Clear aligners: This type of braces are a great choice if you want transparent braces. They are removable trays, without wires and brackets, for example Invisalign.

Which is the best type of braces to choose?

It depends on many factors such as cost, severity of the dental condition being treated, available treatment options where you're located and so on. Some are more affordable than other types, for example traditional metal braces.

Also, a type of braces may be preferred over the others if the dental condition to be treated is quite severe.

👥 Who Can Get Braces?

Braces aren’t just for children and teens!

They can be used by even adults who want to fix crooked teeth, spacing, or bite problems at any age.

Meanwhile, in children from ages 9–14 years, it's easier correct alignment problems as their teeth and bones are still developing.

What to Expect

The first few days of use may bring mild discomfort depending on what type of braces you are using but that is normal as your teeth are just adjusting.

You might have to start a soft-food diet. You might also have to stop eating some of your favourite food.

Keep in mind that each adjustment brings you closer to your dream smile! 😁

🚫 Foods to Avoid

Skip hard, sticky, or crunchy foods (yes, even popcorn 🍿) to protect your braces.
